What is the best time to travel with my snub-nosed pet?
Believe it or not but this is one of the most critical elements that defines the comfort of your pet’s journey. Please do not choose to travel in the peak summer months or during the hotter hours in the day.
When traveling with a brachycephalic breed, plan much ahead and opt to travel in cooler months. Most airlines do not fly snub-nosed dogs during the hot summer months when the temperatures are scorching as this definitely has a negative impact on their breathing conditions. Furthermore, there are also certain destinations that airlines do not fly these breeds to due to the high temperatures and scorching weather conditions.
We strongly advise you to map your travel much ahead of time, plan the safest travel destinations, at the coolest times of day and through the most direct routes.
Please also make sure that your pet is hydrated through and through and days before the expected travel date. This plays an equally important role in making the flight safer for your short-snout pet. Don’t forget to attach a large water bowl on your pet’s crate for him/her to drink during the flight while being mindful to train your pet to use the water bowl before the journey. Moreover, as an added measure, you can optionally also freeze and attach a second water bowl for your own peace of mind. We also recommend either leaving instructions with the airline crew to offer water to your pet before take-off, after landing, and during layovers or we could do it for you.
